Similarly, if you are interested in applying for funding to come and work with us, please send your CV and a covering letter explaining why you are interested in our research - we may be able to assist you in obtaining suitable funding.
PhD Studentships
PhD studentships will be advertised on this page and/or the main UCL chemistry department site when they are available. We aim to take on several PhD students in autumn each year - if you are interested in joining our group, please contact Dr Sheppard directly via email. Prospective PhD students are encouraged to enquire about possible research projects early on in the academic year (the organic postgraduate open day is typically held in November/December). Students interested in interdisciplinary PhD projects are encouraged to apply for the ISMB Wellcome Trust studentships - details can be found here. We also have collaborative PhD projects available covering areas such as medicinal chemistry and radiolabelling as part of the PhD programme in Drug Discovery.
Please note that almost all PhD studentship funding we obtain only covers the University fees for UK or those with a right to work/study in the UK (or in some cases is only open to UK citizens and/or residents). Non-UK citizens without the appropriate status will need to obtain funding to cover overseas university fees - see here for details of scholarships.
4th Year MSci Research Projects
Each year we usually have one or two research projects for UCL final year undergraduate students available in our laboratory. Further details of the available projects will be circulated by the course organiser. Students about to begin the 4th year are welcome to come and see Dr Sheppard in order to discuss potential research projects.
Summer Research Projects
Whilst we do not normally have funding available for summer projects, a number of scholarships are available to UK undergraduates (e.g. Nuffield or Wellcome Trust) and anyone interested in applying for these awards is encouraged to get in touch early in the academic year (ideally before Christmas). If you have already have funding for a summer project and are interested in coming to work with us, please get in touch (ideally before Christmas).
